These supplements generally work by suppresing the appetite and boosting the metabolism of the body. While not all diet supplements are free from side effects, herbal supplements are generally considered quite safe for consumption.

Can diet supplements counteract a poor diet?

It is acknowledged by experts that diet supplements can be beneficial to the body as long as they are consumed in moderation. The problem is that more and more people have started using diet supplements as an “insurance” against bad diet. This is a problem because diet supplements, as their name indicates, are only “supplements” and not substitutes for a good diet. Supplements work best when they are supported by a well-balanced diet. For instance, no weight loss supplement is going to help you if you consume fatty, processed food all the time. Nutritionists have always maintained that a well-balanced diet is the best way to maintain good health. The bottom line is that you should use diet supplements only to enhance the effects of a good diet and not to “make up” for a bad one.
